My Kitchen Counter Recommends…

The responsibility of making reservations when traveling has recently been passed down from my mom to me. From the perspective of everyone else on our family vacations, we “have great luck!” when traveling, as we “never have a bad meal”. Only my mom and I really understand that luck has nothing to do with it. We collect recommendations from friends we respect, compile lists of places we have been to before, write down names our local friends mention casually in conversation. A great amount of preparation goes into making sure we never have a bad meal when traveling.
This past weekend my mom, brother, boyfriend, and I traveled to Paris. I am lucky enough to have been a number of times before, but usually on my own staying with a French friend of mine. My trips in the past have been more about learning French than about eating well, so I turned to friends and experts before making any reservations. My research brought me to GOOP, Gwenyth Paltrow’s blog. Say what you will about her, but her blog is excellent for recommendations in various cities based on her experience, and after reading her travel newsletters I have decided to recreate my own version. As my lists of amazing meals has grown through various travels and my lives in different cities, friends and relatives are often emailing me for recommendations. Look no further, guys! On the right side of the blog you will now see a link for what Juliane Recommends. I am going to spend the next few days catching up with some of my favorite cities, and going forward I will update often, so check back.
Please email me at mykitchncounter@gmail.com with your suggestions as I am always looking for new places to explore. Make a case for why people need to know about your favorite spot, and I will be sure to get it up on the blog. Safe travels and happy eating, guys!
